1. Verb + ing in function as a NOUN (Gerund)

A gerund can be used as a noun. We use a gerund (VERB + ing) after certain verbs such as LOVE, LIKE, MIND, ENJOY, HATE … They normally name emotions rather than actions, people or objects.

 

2. Non-action verbs

The following verbs will be followed by a gerund.

4. Verbs involving emotions

            Usually when we need a noun bur we have a verb, we put it in GERUND.

I enjoy football. / I enjoy playing football.

I like movies. / I I like going to the movies.

I mind cats. / I mind having a cat.

I don’t mind fast food. / I don’t mind having fast food.

I dislike heave metal music. / I dislike listening to heavy metal music.

I hate TV. / I hate watching TV.
